Junior Brian Michka had a big game to earn NEFC Defensive Player of the Week honors.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(9/24/07)--Coast Guard Academy junior linebacker Brian Michka has been named the New England Football Conference (NEFC) Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Bears 42-14 win over Westfield State on Saturday.
Michka led Coast Guard with 13 tackles, eight solo, two for loss, one sack, a forced fumble and a pass breakup as Coast Guard remained perfect in NEFC Bogan Division play winning its eighth straight division game dating back to last season.
Coast Guard’s defense held the NEFC’s top passing offense, Westfield State to just 195 yards, well below its 314 yards per game, while forcing three turnovers including a 28-yard interception return for a touchdown by sophomore Keenan Prather.
The Bears are 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the NEFC Bogan Division.
