Sophomore Carin Sweeney had seven kills, eight digs, three blocks and three aces as the Bears remained unbeaten in NEWMAC play.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(9/18/07)--Junior All-America Nicole Gurr had 13 kills, nine digs and three blocks while sophomore Carin Sweeney added seven kills, eight digs, three aces and three blocks as defending New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) champion Coast Guard won its 16th straight regular season home match against conference opponents and remained unbeaten in conference play with a 3-0 (30-12, 30-18, 30-15) win over Babson, which suffered its first conference loss of the season.

The Bears, who have now won 13 straight NEWMAC matches dating back to last season, jumped out to a 9-1 lead in game one and cruised to the 30-12 win.

Game two was tied 12-12 before the Bears took charge for the 30-18 win and Coast Guard finished off the match with a 30-15 win in game three.

Senior Corinne McCormack had 11 kills, five digs and two aces while freshman Ashley Bullard led the way with 36 assists to go with four kills and four digs for the Bears (5-2, 3-0), who have won four straight.

Coast Guard junior Jeannie Crump had four kills on just four attempts in her only game of the night, game three.

Sophomore Caitlin O’Neill led the way with five kills for Babson (4-5, 2-1) which had its three game win streak snapped. Senior Carlen Palau had a team-high nine digs for the Beavers.
