Volleyball - #25 Bears lose at Williams 3-0 in Season Opener
Junior All-America Nicole Gurr led the Bears with 14 kills.
WILLIAMSTOWN, MASS.--(9/7/07)--Williams opened the 2007 season by knocking off # 25 Coast Guard 3-0 (30-26, 30-22, 30-28).
The Ephs, who were 25-7 last season including a perfect 10-0 in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC), ended the Bears 16-match regular season unbeaten streak.
Last season, Coast Guard won its final 16 regular season matches and then won the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament and NCAA New England Region to earn the programs first ever berth to the NCAA Division III Elite 8.
Junior All-America Nicole Gurr led the Bears with 14 kills to go with two blocks while senior Corinne McCormack added 12 kills, four digs and two blocks.
Senior Megan Durbin had 11 digs and two aces while freshman Ashley Bullard led the Bears with 35 assists.
The Bears return to action tomorrow when they host rival Merchant Marine at 12:30 p.m. before hosting #23 Stevens Tech, which also advanced to the Elite 8 last season, at 3 p.m.
