Men's Soccer - Deneen Scores Twice as Bears Win 5-1
Junior Peter Deneen scored twice as the Bears remained unbeaten.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(9/5/07)--Junior Peter Deneen scored a pair of second half goals in a span of just over six minutes as Coast Guard, ranked 10th in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) New England Regional poll, scored four second half goals enroute to a 5-1 win over cross town rival Mitchell in a non-conference game.
Freshman Nick Devine scored his first collegiate goal in the 38th minute with sophomore Jacob Larsen assisting as the Bears led 1-0 at halftime.
Junior Nate Wojcik gave the Bears a 2-0 lead in the 55th minute as sophomore Brandon McMillan assisted.
Mitchell (0-2-1) scored its only goal of the night on a penalty kick by junior Josh DeSilveira in the 58th minute.
Coast Guard put the game away as Deneen scored in the 67th and 73rd minute with senior Ben Weber and junior Dave O’Brien assisting.
Sophomore Spencer Ross tallied his first career goal with just 22 seconds left as senior Greg Kotowitz assisted.
Coast Guard (2-0) outshot Mitchell 27-9.
Sophomore goalkeeper Tim Olah made all three Coast Guard saves while freshman Chris Tarbell saw his first collegiate action, playing the final 12 minutes and 10 seconds in goal for the Bears.
