Men's Soccer - Bears Win Season Opener 2-1
David O'Brien's goal in the 51st minute proved to the game winner for Coast Guard.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(9/1/07)--David O’Brien’s goal in the 51st minute broke a 1-1 tie as Coast Guard beat New England College 2-1 in the season opener for both teams.
New England College got on the board first on a goal by Dean Smith which was assisted by James Palumbo 26:14 into the game.
Coast Guard tied the game on a goal by Peter Deneen in the 32nd minute with Nick Devine adding the assist and the teams remained tied at halftime.
O’Brien took a cross from Jacob Larsen and scored the eventual game winner, just 5:30 into the second half and the Bears held on for the win.
Coast Guard outshot New England College 10-4 and Tim Olah made five saves to record the victory for the Bears.
