NEFC Bogan Division Offensive Player of the Year Christian George is one of 15 starters back for the Bears. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(8/9/07)--The defending New England Football Conference (NEFC) Bogan Division champion Coast Guard Academy football team will have its first practice on Monday, August 13th at 4 p.m at Cadet Memorial Field.
Coast Guard, ranked 24th nationally by Street & Smith’s in its preseason magazine this year, and head coach Bill George, in his ninth season, welcome back eight NEFC All-division selections from last year: four first-team selections and four-second team selections led by Bogan Division Offensive Player of the Year senior quarterback Christian George and Bogan Division Defensive Rookie of the Year free safety Steve Arguelles, who has been named a preseason All-American by Street & Smith’s. Coast Guard returns 15 starters in all, seven on offense, six on defense and the punter and kicker.
The highlight of the preseason will be when the Bears host WPI in a scrimmage on August 25th.
The Bears, who tied a school-record with eight straight regular season wins last season, open the season at home on Sept. 8th against rival Merchant Marine at 2:30 p.m in the annual battle for the Secretaries’ Cup.
Coast Guard was 8-3 overall last year, 8-1 in the regular season and they won the NEFC Bogan Division championship with a perfect 7-0 record in their first year in the conference. |
