 Steve Blum was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District team. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(6/11/07)--Coast Guard Academy junior Steve Blum has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District I men’s track & field/cross country first team as selected by the College Sports Information Director’s of America (CoSIDA).
Blum, who has a 3.5 GPA as a Civil Engineering major, earned All-America honors in the javelin with a fourth place finish outdoors as well as competing in the decathlon at the NCAA Division III Championships.
He also won the Division III New England (6,219 points) decathlon for the second straight season and won the All-New England (Division I, II and III) decathlon (6,460 points while also capturing the the New England Division III javelin championship this year.
Blum has been a member of the Dean's List every semester at the Academy and is a member of Alpha Lambda Delta and the American Society of Civil Engineers academic clubs.
Steve, who is also the starting center on the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) champion men’s basketball team, has been a member of the NEWMAC All-Academic basketball and track teams for the past two seasons.
Blum will now be placed on the national ballot. District I consists of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick and Quebec. To be nominated, the student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) for his/her career. |
