NEW LONDON, CONN.--(5/7/07)--The Coast Guard Academy placed 13 student athletes on the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Spring Academic All-conference team.
The men’s track and field team led the way with six members, the women’s track and field team had three student athletes honored, baseball had two named to the team while softball and women’s crew each had one named to the All-Academic team.
Senior Chad Beck, juniors Chris Musselwhite and Matt Romano along with sophomores Mike Haas, Mike Persun and Kyle Richter were named from the men’s track team.
Seniors Hillary Brown and Aidan Van Cleef along with sophomore Kelly Proulet were named from the women’s track team.
Juniors Adam Reckley and Evan Reger (baseball), sophomore Ashley Stone (crew) and Keely Balthrop (softball) were also honored.
Honorees must have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2006 spring semester, achieved second year academic status at her institution, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.
The New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference consists of 10 highly selective institutions committed to academic excellence: Babson College, Clark University, U.S. Coast Guard Academy, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Mount Holyoke College, Smith College, Springfield College, Wellesley College, Wheaton College, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute. |
