SPRINGFIELD, MASS.--(5/5/07)--Steve Blum won a pair of events and and Zach Geyer captured the high jump as the Coast Guard Academy men's track and field team finished sixth in the New England Division III Championship at Springfield College.

The Bears finished with 60.3 points while Williams College won the event with 137 points.

Blum, a junior, successfully defended his New England title in the decathlon with 6,219 points, and that total was good enough to provisionally qualify for the NCAA Division III Championships. Blum also won the javelin with a throw of 185 feet, 10 inches while Geyer cleared 6-5 1/2 to win a gold medal in the high jump.

Coast Guard also had a number of other athletes finish in the top eight and earn All-New England honors.

Nate Rhodes finished second in the pole vault (14-4), the 4x400 relay team of Jason Erickson, Matt Romano, Sam England and Tom Adams placed second (3:22.3), Lee Crusius was fourth in the hammer throw (166-6), Chris Hunt was sixth in the hammer (164-3), Kevan Hanson was sixth in the shot put (48-8) and seventh in the discus (135-11) and Mike Flint, returning just two weeks after having his appendix removed, finished sixth in the 800 (1:56.17).
