Ben Komar '07 and Jenn Hom '09. New London, CT--(4/16/07)--The Coast Guard Academy Sailing Team had another very impressive weekend. The team traveled to many different events across New England and placed top five at every event.
At the BU Trophy hosted by Boston University, the Bears were obviously the team to beat. The conditions were challenging based on rain and very shifty winds. Over the entire regatta, 8 races were sailed in each division. Chris Greenough '07 and Abbey Lafond '08 sailed very well in A-Division, finishing the event with 38 points, placing them 2nd in their division, closely behind 1st place. Ben Komar '07 and Jennifer Hom '09 also sailed extremely well in B-Division, finishing with 14 points and winning their division by 25 points. Overall, with a combined score of 52 points, the Bears won the BU Trophy in great fashion, with the second place team finishing with 100 points. This victory gives the team its second victory in three years at the BU Trophy.
On Saturday at the Moody Trophy, hosted by the University of Rhode Island, 15 races were sailed in a puffy Westerly with many shifts of Northerly mixed in. The conditions on Sunday didn't allow for sailing so teams were sent home early. The team finished 5th overall with 108 points. In A-Division, Rob Gorman '07 and Kyra Chin '07 finished 6th with 49 points while in B-Division Noel Shriner '08 and Emily Kehrt '09 finished 8th with 59 points.
Scott Balog '09, Ian Oviatt '10, Chris Grabe '10, and Cezar Gomez '10 also finished second at the Southern Series hosted by Salve Regina. |
