BABSON PARK, MASS.--(4/14/07)--Seniors Andrea Cartullo and Alex Lazar combined for two home runs, five runs scored, and seven RBIs in game two of a NEWMAC doubleheader with Coast Guard, as the Beavers completed a sweep of the Bears with an 11-0 win.

Babson, which also won game one, 2-1, improved to 19-12-1 overall and 8-4 in the conference, while Coast Guard slipped to 10-18 overall and 4-10 in the NEWMAC.

The Beavers won game one in dramatic fashion, as senior Robyn Woodruff recorded the game-winning single to left center with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to give Babson a 2-1 victory. Sophomore Kaitlyn Clark singled with one out to start the rally, and senior Sarah Rubino later walked with two outs to set up Woodruff's game-winning hit.

Babson had taken a 1-0 lead in the third, as sophomore Courtney Thurston drew a two-out walk and stole second. She then moved to third on an infield single by senior tri-captain Darcy Lantz and scored when Lantz drew a throw across the diamond.

Coast Guard later tied it on a hit and two errors in the fifth, as sophomore Annette Boston reached on a miscue, took second on a single by sophomore Jeannie Crump and scored on an errant throw that allowed Carin Sweeney to reach base.

After a rough outing against WPI on Friday, freshman Danielle Liska returned to form with a magnificent effort, giving up just one earned run on six hits while walking none and striking out 10 in seven innings.

Sophomore Katie Murray pitched well in defeat for Coast Guard, allowing two runs on five hits, walking two and striking out two in 6 2/3.

Game two was all Babson, as Lazar launched her first home run of the season in the bottom of the first, scoring Cartullo in front of her to give the Beavers a 2-0 lead.

The home team then erupted for nine more runs in the third, with the first two scoring on a two-run double to left by Lazar. Lantz followed with an RBI single to left center, junior Jess Cohen added a run-scoring single to center, and, after two were out, junior Jess Byrn placed a two-run single up the middle. That brought Cartullo to the plate with two on, and she responded with a three-run blast over the wall in left – her second homer of the season. That gave Babson an 11-0 lead that was more than enough for Byrn, who tossed her second shutout of the year while giving up just three hits and fanning three in five innings.

Lazar finished game two with two hits, two runs scored, and four RBIs, while Cartullo went 1-for-1 with three runs and three driven in.

Crump and Coast Guard teammate Leanna Minton were the only players with multiple hits in game one, with each player finishing 2-for-4.
