NEW LONDON, CONN.--(4/13/07)--Jessica DePolito hit a pair of homers and drove in three runs in the opener while Nicole Lachance was 3 for 3 with three RBI’s in game two as Wheaton swept Coast Guard 7-5 and 7-2 in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) doubleheader.

In the opener, Wheaton scored three times in the top of the first on and RBI single by Stacey Kelleher and a two-run homer by DePolito.

Coast Guard scored twice in the home half on an RBI triple by Jeannie Crump, who later scored on a wild pitch. Crump was 3 for 4 in the first game with two doubles, a triple and three RBI’s.

Wheaton (19-11, 9-3) added two more in the second. The first run scored on a throwing error before Lachance delivered an RBI triple giving the Lyons a 5-2 lead. Lachance had a double and triple in the game.

The Bears tied the game in the second as Crump had a two-run double and Leanna Minton later scored on a balk to tie the game at 5-5.

DePolito led off the third with a homer which was the only run until the Lyons added an insurance run in the top of the seventh on an RBI single by Audrey Poulton.

Coast Guard (10-16, 4-8) had the bases loaded with one out in the seventh, before a ground ball double play ended the threat and the game.

Jodi Moynagh (8-3) went the distance for Wheaton while allowing six hits, and two earned runs while walking four and striking out nine to pickup the win.

Colleen Perry (5-10) took the loss for Coast Guard as she allowed nine hits and five earned runs while walking four and fanning two.

In the nightcap, Andrea Bagley (7-4) scattered six hits and allowed one earned run while striking out five and not walking a batter to get the win.

Wheaton led 1-0 before scoring four runs in the fourth on back-to-back RBI singles by Merry MacDonald and Lachance for a 5-0 lead.

Katie Murray (4-5) went the first five innings and took the loss for the Bears as she allowed nine hits and six earned runs while walking three and striking out two.

DePolito also had two hits including a double in game two.

Carin Sweeney had two hits nad the only RBI of the game for the Bears in the second game.
