Softball - Perry Fires Two-Hitter and Strikes Out 15 to Lead Bears

NEW LONDON, CONN.--(4/9/07)--Colleen Perry fired a two-hit shutout while striking out a career-high 15 batters including the 600th of her career leading Coast Guard to its season-high third straight win, a 3-0 victory over Salve Regina in a non-conference game.
Perry simply overmatched the Salve Regina lineup allowing just a pair of singles, one in the first and the other in the fourth while also walking two batters.
Coast Guard (9-13) broke a scoreless tie in the fifth as Leanna Minton singled and stole second and scored on an RBI double by Carin Sweeney. Minton was 3 for 4 with three stolen bases in the game.
Keeley Balthrop delivered a two-run homer in the sixth providing the Bears a pair of insurance runs. Balthop had two hits in the game for Coast Guard.
Perry, who became the Bears all-time strikeout leader last season recorded her 600th strikeout this afternoon and now has 606 in her career. Her previous high in strikeouts was 14 which she achieved in a 1-0 win over Coe College on March 8, 2006.
Emily Rodenhiser (0-1) took the loss in relief for the Seahawks (8-10) as she pitched the fourth and fifth innings and allowed the double to Sweeney which gave the Bears the lead.
