New London, CT--(4/9/07)--The Coast Guard Academy Sailing Team traveled to many venus this past weekend, competing in both fleet race and team race events. Despite frigid temperatures, strong winds, and even snow at times, the Bears posted great results at each venue, once again proving their spot as a nationally ranked team.

At the Lynne Marchiando Trophy Team Race hosted by MIT, the Bears sailed hard on Saturday and had 4 wins and 3 losses which advanced them to the championship round for Sunday. The Championship Round was a hard fought and cold battle as sailors were battling 20-25 plus west/northwest breezes with very cold conditions. Tell tales didn't show the shifts because they were frozen in position and the jib sheets froze up in the blocks. Battling some of the toughest teams in college sailing, CGA had 2 wins and 4 losses, finishing 6th place out of 16. Sailing for CGA were Chris Greenough ’07, Ben Komar ’07, Rob Gorman ’07, Jenn Hom ’09, Abbey Lafond ’09, Kyra Chin ’07, Andrew Gibbons ’07, and Jason Hill ’08.

At the Admiral Alymers Trophy hosted by Massachusetts Maritime Academy, the Bears sailed to a very impressive 6th place overall, out of 18 teams. Kevin Kuhn ’08 and Kirstin Haas ’10 finished 4th in A-Division with 107 points, posting several top five finishes and a first place finish in race 10. Adam Frye ’08 and Scott Balog ’09 finished 7th in B-Division with 108 points and several top five finishes as well.

The women's team traveled to Boston University to compete for the President's Trophy. The lady Bears finished 13th out of 16 teams. Betsy Tufts '07 and Emily Kehrt '09 finished 11th in A-Division with 85 points while Brittany Lashaway '07, Nicole Bredariol '09, and Alanna McGovern '08 finished 12th in B-Division with 83 points.

Next weekend the team will travel to the Moody Trophy hosted by URI, the BU Trophy hosted by Boston University and will host the New England Sloop Qualifiers at home in Colgate 26s.
