Pete Schofield pitched a three-hit shutout in the opener to record his first career win.
WORCESTER, MASS.--(4/7/07)--Sophomore Pete Schofield tossed a three-hitter in the opener, to pickup his first career win, and Will Becker went the distance scatttering nine hits and allowing two runs in game two as Coast Guard swept Clark 6-0 and 16-2 in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) doubleheader.

Schofield (1-1) worked all seven innings and allowed three singles, walked three and struck out three.

Coast Guard got all it would need in the first as Christian George tripled and Chuck Arena hit a sacrifice fly for a 1-0 lead. The Bears added one more in the third on an RBI single by Arena, his school record 155th career hit breaking the mark of 154 held by Rob Trevino (1999-2002). Arena had three hits on the day to finish the afternoon with 157 hits.

Coast Guard added two more in the sixth on a two-run single by Adam Reckley for a 4-0 lead. The Bears closed the scoring with two more in the seventh as Kevin Keefe was walked with the bases loaded and Reckley was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

In game two, Coast Guard pounded out 17 hits and scored four in the first and four more in the second cruising to the 16-2 win.

Brian Lisko and Bret Nichols each had two hits including a double and three RBI’s in the second game while George, Ken Franklin, Mike Mitchell and Keith Laird each had two hits for the Bears (9-10, 4-3).

Becker remains unbeaten improving to 4-0 on the season as he walked two and struck out seven.
