MIDDLETOWN, CONN.--(3/29/07)--Wesleyan scored five unearned runs in the third inning to erase a 3-2 deficit as the Cardinals beat Coast Guard 12-6, handing the Bears their third straight loss, in a non-conference game.
Coast Guard scored four times in the top of the second to take a 4-2 lead as Brian Yurovich and Kevin Keefe drew bases loaded walks and Christian George had an RBI groundout while the Bears other run came on a throwing error.
Wesleyan led 8-4 after their five-run third and then the Cardinals added three more runs in the fourth for a commanding 11-4 lead.
Coast Guard added runs in the eighth with Adam Reckley delivering an RBI double. Reckley reached base all four times at bat as he had two hits, a walk and was hit by a pitch.
Kevin Thomas (0-4), the Coast Guard starter, worked four innings and took the loss.
Tony Guido was impressive in relief as he allowed just two singles and one run while walking one and striking three in the final four innings of work.
Chuck Arena and Ken Franklin also had two hits each for Coast Guard (6-7).
