 Jacob Pitchford was named NEWMAC Pitcher of the Week for the second straight week. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(3/26/07)--Coast Guard Academy junior Jacob Pitchford has made the most of his first year of collegiate baseball as the lefthander was named New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Pitcher of the Week for the second straight week.
Pitchford, an exchange student from the U.S. Naval Academy, improved to 2-0 on the season and snapped Wheaton’s 13-game NEWMAC winning streak by working 6 2/3 innings, allowing just four hits while walking five and striking out four.
The Lyons only run of the game came on a squeeze play in the second inning. Wheaton, ranked 2nd nationally, entered the game winners of four straight, however, Pitchford held the potent Wheaton offense, which had scored 47 runs in its last four games, in check.
Pitchford is 2-0 on the season and is second in the NEWMAC with a 1.46 ERA. Coast Guard is 6-5 overall and 1-1 in conference play. |
