NEW LONDON, CONN.--(3/25/07)--Will Becker tossed a four-hit shutout while striking out four as Coast Guard nipped Castleton State 1-0 in the opener before the Spartans had an offensive outburst in game two to beat the Bears 15-0 and salvage a split of the non-conference doubleheader.

Coast Guard scored the only run, an unearned run, of the opener in the first as Brian Lisko delivered a two-out RBI single scoring Chuck Arena, a pair of Castleton State errors extended the inning.

Becker allowed just four singles and did not walk a batter to improve to 2-0 on the season.

Ron Cahill (1-1), the tough luck loser, was just as good for the Spartans as he allowed just four singles, walked one and struck out three.

In game two, Castleton State’s Billy Bruneau highlighted six-run second inning with a grand slam to right field and Travis Bass added a three-run home run in a four-run seventh as the Spartans had 15 hits in the win.

Chris Ragis had three doubles for Castleton State (5-5).

Tom Cummings (2-1) picked up the win as he worked five innings and allowed just four singles while walking two and striking out four.

Coast Guard (6-5) was again held to just four singles in game two.
