Steve Blum's javelin throw made him a provisional qualifier for the Div. III national meet.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(3/24/07)--Mike Flint won a pair of events to help lead the Coast Guard Academy men's track and field team to the Connecticut College Invitational title.

The Bears scored 250.5 points and Eastern Connecticut State University was second at 133.5.

Flint, a senior, won the 800 meters in 1:57.43 and took the 1,500 at 3:55.85. He qualified for the New England Division III in both events.

Other winners for Coast Guard were Tom Campbell in the 110 hurdles (16.71), Zach Geyer in the high jump (6-51/2), Steve Blum in the javelin (189-11), Nate Rhodes in the pole vault (13-3) and Chris Hunt in the hammer throw (157-3). Blum's javelin throw made him a provisional qualifier for the Div. III national meet.

Coast Guard's 4x400 relay team also won at 3:34.31. Team members were Sam England, Thomas Adams, Pat Bennett and Jason Erickson.

Other Coast Guard qualifiers for the New England Div. III meet were Erickson in the 800 (1:58.72), Campbell in the high jump (6:31.2), Blum in the high jump (6-11/2), Mike Comerford in the pole vault (12-9), Mike Gordon in the pole (12-9), Kevan Hanson in the shot (43-101/2) and discus (136-0), Lee Crusius in the hammer (152.5) and Beau Belanger in the javelin (168.8).
