Jacob Pitchford picked up his first career victory with a strong outing.
FORT MYERS, FLA.--(3/13/07)--Christian George had single, double, triple an RBI and three runs scored as eight Coast Guard players had two or more hits in a 17 hit attack as the Bears beat Albion (Mich.) 11-8.

Kevin Higgins, who had a career-high four RBI’s in the game, had two hits including a three-run double highlighting a four-run third inning as the Bears led 4-0 after three innings.

Albion scored five unearned run in the fourth to take a 5-4 lead before Coast Guard (2-2) responded with four more runs in the sixth to regain the lead 8-5.

In the sixth, Bret Nichols, Ken Franklin, Brian Lisko and Higgins each drove in a run.

Albion scored two more unearned runs in the sixth to make the score 8-7 and chase Coast Guard starter and winning pitcher Jacob Pitchford, who was brilliant. Pitchford, a Navy exchange cader, worked 5 2/3 innings and allowed six hits and just one earned run while walking four and striking out six in his first career start for the Bears.

The Bears added three more runs in the seventh as George delivered an RBI triple scoring Keith Laird, who led off with a double. Lisko had the big hit, a two-run single giving the Bears an 11-7 lead.

Albion scratched yet another unearned run off Pete Schofield in the seventh, but Schofield worked out of jam and left runners on second and third.

Tony Guido worked the final two innings and faced just seven batters allowing only a walk to record his first career save.
