Women's Basketball - Moyer named NEWMAC first-team; Martinelli named ROY
Natalie Moyer, the NEWMAC's leading scorer, was named to the first-team for the second straight season.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(2/27/07)--Junior guard Natalie Moyer, who led the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) in scoring this season was named to the All-conference first team while freshman forward Melissa Martinelli was named Rookie of the Year in voting by the leagues ten head coaches.
Moyer was named to the first team for the second straight season as she led the NEWMAC with 19 points per game and 63 three-pointers. She led Coast Guard with 2.8 steals per game which ranked her second in the conference. She is second all-time at Coast Guard with 1,133 points.
Martinelli led all NEWMAC rookies with 13.7 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. She was second on team in scoring while the 8.5 rebounds led the Bears. Martinelli registered ten double-doubles this season and becomes just the second Coast Guard player to be named NEWMAC women’s basketball Rookie of the Year. Amy Harmel was the 2001-2002 NEWMAC Rookie of the Year.
Coast Guard was 13-13 overall and 6-7 in NEWMAC play this season.
Mount Holyoke’s Angela Astuccio and Michelle Scecina were named Player of the Year and Coach of the Year respectively after winning the tournament for the first time.
