Women's Swimming - Hunter Wins 100 Free; Earns All-Conference in Three Events
Joan Hunter won the 100 freestyle and placed second in both the 50 and 200 freestyle.
WELLESLEY, MASS.--(2/18/07)--Joan Hunter won the 100 freestyle and placed second in both the 50 and 200 freestyle, breaking school records in all three events and earning All-conference honors in all three events leading Coast Guard to a fifth place finish at the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships.
Hunter's times in the 50 and the 100 were NCAA "B" times which earn her a trip to the NCAA Championships in Houston, Texas which will be held Mar. 15-17. This will be Hunter's first trip to the NCAA Championships.
Hunter won the 100 freestyle relay with a time of 53.14 breaking her own school record of 54.05.
She placed second in both the 50 freestyle (24.03) and 200 freestyle (1:56.76) again breaking her own school records. She set the conference open and meet record in the 50 freestyle the 23.95 time in the preliminaries, but it was broken in the finals.
Coast Guard was fifth with 308.5 points, over 100 more points than the teamed scored last season. The Bears had placed sixth in each of the last two years.
Springfield won the championship for the seventh straight season.
