 Natalie Moyer led had game highs with 29 points, 7 rebounds and 7 steals. NEW LONDON, CONN.—-(2/15/07)--Natalie Moyer had game-highs with 29 points, seven rebounds and seven steals while Melissa Martinelli added 21 points and seven rebounds as Coast Guard knocked Wheaton out of a first place tie with a 76-64 win in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.
Moyer had a basket with 15:50 left which gave Coast Guard the lead for good at 48-47. That basket started a 10-0 run as the Bears took a 56-47 lead with 10:41 left.
Wheaton closed the margin to four at 68-64 on a basket by Kim McCormack with 1:18 left.
The Lyons (16-8, 9-3) led by as many as seven, twice in the first half. The Lyons led 25-18 with 10:49 left before Coast Guard (13-11, 6-6) used a 16-3 run to take its largest lead of the half, 34-28 with 5:10 left. Wheaton led 43-42 at halftime as they knocked down six of nine three-pointers in the first 20 minutes.
Krystin Hickey led Wheaton with 23 points to go with six rebounds while McCormack added 15 points while Samara Audet added 13 points and a game-high seven rebounds.
Martinelli was eight for 10 from the floor while DeCarol Davis had 16 points including nine of 10 from the foul line for Coast Guard.
Moyer moved into fourth place on Coast Guard's all-time scoring list as she passed Heather Wolf ('99), who had 1,097 points. Moyer now has 1,103 career points. |
