Women's Basketball - Bears hold off rival Conn. College 62-58
Melissa Martinelli had a game-high 21 points to lead the Bears.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(2/6/07)--Natalie Moyer was four for four from the foul line in the final 38 seconds and Coast Guard used an 11-0 run late in the second half to snap a three-game losing streak in the series for a 62-58 win over neighbor Connecticut College in a non-conference game.
Conn. College led 42-41 with 7:16 left before the Bears ran off 11 straight points to take a 52-42 lead with 5:14 remaining.
DeCarol Davis hit a three-pointer to put the Bears up 55-44 with 4:33 left before Conn. College responded with a 10-2 spurt cutting the lead to 57-54 with 1:42 left.
Melissa Martinelli made one of two free throws for Coast Guard with 1:26 left and then Katy Serafin hit a pair of free throws with 1:07 left to make the score 58-56.
Moyer hit two free throws with 37.5 seconds left and following a Conn. College basket by Kirsten Frazer, Moyer made two more with 18.1 left to ice the game for the Bears (12-9).
Martinelli had a game-high 21 points to go with nine rebounds while Moyer finished with 19 points and a game-high five steals.
Corinne McCormack added 11 points and a game-high 11 rebounds while DeCarol Davis added 10 points for the Bears.
Katy Serafin led Conn. College (10-12) with 19 points and nine rebounds.
