 Al Sowers had a game-high 22 points including the 1,000th of his career. NEW LONDON, CONN.--(1/27/07)--Zach Etten led five Babson players in double figures with 20 points to go with his team-high eight rebounds as the Beavers overcame an early 13-2 deficit to beat Coast Guard 74-62 in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.
Coast Guard junior Al Sowers scored his 1,000th career point becoming the 16th player in Coast Guard history to achieve that milestone. Sowers had 15 of his game-high 22 points in the first half. He scored his 1,000th point on a free throw that completed a three-point play with 11:15 left in the game. Sowers finished the game with 1,003 points. He also had a game-high four assists for the Bears, who have dropped three straight.
Babson (11-7, 5-2) battled back from the early 11 point deficit by scoring 12 straight to take a 14-13 lead with 14:38 left in the first half. The Beavers then used a 13-2 spurt to end the first half turning a 31-26 deficit into a 39-33 halftime lead.
Babson came out strong to start the second half scoring nine of the first 10 points to take its largest lead 48-34 with 16:37 left.
Coast Guard (10-9, 1-6) battled back and trailed by six, 65-59, with 3:58 left, but the Bears would get no closer.
Brandon Eigenberg (14), Brian MacDonald (11), Greg Bush (10) and Kyle McDonald (10) all scored in double figures for Babson (11-7, 5-2), which has won three of its last four games.
Babson shot 51 percent from the floor (26-51) while hitting seven of 18 three-pointers.
Jeff Prebeck had 21 points and a game-high 12 rebounds for Coast Guard. He moved into third place on the school’s all-time rebounding list finishing the game with 759 rebounds.
Coast Guard shot 37.3 percent from the floor (19-51) while making seven of 24 from three-point range. |
