NEW LONDON, CONN.—-(1/24/07)--Jess Lamothe made two free throws with eight seconds left to preserve Clark’s 54-49 win over Coast Guard in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.

Coast Guard battled back from a 19-point first half deficit and had three chances in the final minute to tie the game, but came up empty.

Clark scored 13 straight points in the first half to take a 30-11 lead with 8:50 left. Coast Guard trailed 32-13 before scoring nine straight to pull to 32-22 with 3:57 left. The Cougars led 36-27 at halftime.
Clark (7-10, 3-3) pushed the lead to 13 at 42-29 before a 9-0 Coast Guard run made the score 42-38 with 12:05 left in the game.
Coast Guard (9-8, 3-3) cut the lead to one at 48-47 as Natalie Moyer made one of two free throws with 3:09 left.
Corinne McCormack made a basket for Coast Guard with 43.8 seconds left and the Bears trailed 51-49.

Clark missed the front end of a one-and-one and Moyer missed a shot to tie it. The Cougars missed another one-and-one front end, but the Bears did the same with 27 seconds left.

Ashley Auclair made one of two free throws with 22.1 seconds left giving Clark a 52-29 lead. Moyer missed an off balance three-pointer to tie it before Lamothe iced the game.

Sarah Roderigue led Clark with 11 points, three blocks and six steals to go with three assists while Jillian Camilleri had 10 points and a team-high 13 rebounds.

Moyer led Coast Guard, which dropped its third straight, with 17 points while Melissa Martinelli had 10 points. McCormack had eight points and a game-high 15 rebounds.
