NEW LONDON, CONN.—-(11/18/07)--Al Sowers had 16 of his game-high 21 points in the first half and Coast Guard blew the game open by scoring the first 16 points of the second half leading the Bears to an 84-63 win over host Mitchell in the annual game between the two New London schools.

Coast Guard (10-6) led 41-29 at halftime and used a 16-0 run in the first three minutes of the second half taking a 57-29 lead with 17:15 left in the game and the Bears cruised to their second straight win.

Jeff Prebeck, the nation’s leading rebounder with 13.4 per game, had 18 points and 15 rebounds to move into 7th place on the Coast Guard Academy all-time scoring list with 1,060 points. Prebeck passed both current Coast Guard assistant coach Sam Cheung (’02), who had 1,049 points and Scott Budka (’88), who had 1,054 points.

Steve Blum added 13 points and seven rebounds. Eric Hudson was also in double figures for Coast Guard as he tied a career-high with 11 points. Grant Johnson led Coast Guard with five assists to go with his nine points.

Eric Murray led Mitchell (6-7) with 19 points while Kendall Lanham added 15 points and Henry Reyes 10 points for the Pequots.
