Jeff Prebeck became the 15th men's basketball player to join the Coast Guard Academy 1,000 point club.
NEW LONDON, CONN.—-(1/9/07)--Stefan Lewis and Grant Johnson each hit four three-pointers in the second half as Coast Guard used a three-point shooting barrage, hitting 11 of 16 in the final 20 minutes leading the Bears to a 69-56 win over Wheaton in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.

Johnson hit three three-pointers and Al Sowers added a pair of two point baskets in a key 13-0 run down the stretch which turned a 55-51 lead with 4:20 left into a 68-51 advantage with 1:36 left in the game.
Lewis, who hit a career-high five three-pointers (5 for 7) and finished with a career-high 15 points, hit a trio of trifectas in a span of 1:22 and the Bears used an 11-0 run to erase a 41-36 deficit, taking a 47-41 lead with 8:20 left.

Both teams started the game off sluggish as Wheaton (6-5, 0-2) missed its first 10 shots from the floor and Coast Guard hit just one of its first seven. Coast Guard led 15-6 with 7:30 left in the first half as Wheaton was just 2 for 15 from the floor.

Wheaton responded with a 13-0 run taking a 19-15 lead with 2:52 left in the first half. Nick Michel was red hot for the Lyons late in the first half as he scored the final 10 Wheaton points. The Lyons led 23-21 at halftime. Coast Guard hit just 3 of 15 from three-point range in the first half.

The Lyons scored the first five points of the second half to open up a 28-21 lead and led 41-36 with with 12:34 left before the Bears 11-0 run gave them the lead for good.

Jeff Prebeck became the 15th member of the Coast Guard Academy 1,000 point club as he recorded his 11th straight double-double finishing with 10 points while tying a season-high with 19 rebounds, all defensive. Prebeck scored his 1,000th point on a foul shot with 5.4 seconds left in the first half. He was held to just one point in the second half and finished the night with 1,002 points.

Johnson, who was 5 for 10 from three-point range, led Coast Guard with 18 points and five assists while Sowers finished 3 for 4 from three-point range, all in the second half, to finish with 17 points.
Michel led Wheaton with 18 points, 14 in the first half while Brent DiGiovanna added 12 points. Brian Zukowski led the Lyons with six rebounds and three assists.
