Women's Basketball - Bears Cruise Past Smith 61-43
Laura Hutchinson knocked down three treys in the first 4:30 of the game to lead the Bears to their fourth straight win.
NEW LONDON, CONN.—-(1/9/07)--Laura Hutchinson hit a trio of three-pointers in the first 4:30 of the game as the Bears jumped out to a 14-4 lead, increased it to 22-4 and cruised to their fourth straight win, a 61-43 victory over Smith in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.
Melissa Martinelli recorded her fourth straight double-double as she had a team-high 14 points and 10 rebounds while Corinne McCormack also added a team-high and career-high 14 points for Coast Guard (7-4, 2-0).
Hutchinson did all of her damage early in the game as she finished with a season-high nine points to go with four assists. Hutchison teamed with Katie Colella (nine points) to shoot 6 for 7 from three-point range in the first half as the Bears built a 38-20 lead at the break.
Natalie Moyer added 10 points for Coast Guard.
Rosie Baldwin led Smith (1-11, 0-2) with 18 points while Courtney Parker led the Pioneers with eight rebounds and seven assists.
