NEW LONDON, CONN.--(1/4/07)--Jeff Prebeck led all scorers with 25 points and he grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds to register his ninth straight double-double while Al Sowers and Grant Johnson each had season highs with 24 and 20 points respectively leading Coast Guard to a 99-76 win over Lesley in a non-conference game in the first game of the second semester for both teams.
The Bears used a 16-4 spurt late in the first half turning a 30-30 tie into a 46-34 lead with 3:50 left in the first half. Coast Guard (7-3) led 50-37 at halftime.
Coast Guard took its largest lead at the time 62-43 with 16:02 before Lesley (5-6) responded with a 14-2 spurt to cut the lead to 64-57 with 11:51 left.
The Bears answered the Lynx run by scoring 11 straight capped by a Sowers three-pointer with 9:12 left as the Bears led 75-57.
Steve Blum was a perfect six-for-six from the floor and finished with 14 points, 12 rebounds and four blocked shots while Eric Hudson had 10 points and a career-high six steals.
Mark Stevens led Lesley with 16 points while James Parker (14), Joseph Chapman (12) and Francis Cusick (10) were also in double figures for the Lynx. Chatman had game-highs with five assists and seven steals.
Coast Guard dominated on the boards as they outrebounded Lesley 50-30.
