Jeff Prebeck recorded his sixth straight double-double in the win over Kings Point.
KINGS POINT, N.Y.--(12/9/06)--Junior Jeff Prebeck recorded his seventh straight double-double as he finished with 17 points and a season-high 19 rebounds and Coast Guard jumped out to an 11-point lead less than nine minutes into the game and never looked back en route to defeating the United States Merchant Marine Academy 78-57 at Liebertz Gymnasium.
Trailing 17-6 at the 12 minute mark of the first half, USMMA made a push to pull within five following a pair from the free throw line from senior captain Brian Kelly. That was as close as the Mariners got. A five minute field goal drought quickly resulted in a 15 point deficit for Merchant Marine. Coast Guard took a 19 point (41-22) edge into the break.
Coast Guard managed four players in doubles-digits. Prebeck and Al Sowers led the way with 17 points each. Grant Johnson and Justin Church added 13 and 11 points, respectively.
The difference of the game came on the glass. Coast Guard out-rebounded USMMA, 50-29.
