PROVIDENCE, R.I.--(11/29/06)--Junior co-captain Al Sowers scored 10 straight points highlighting a 24-4 run late in the first half that turned a 36-20 deficit into a 44-40 lead and Coast Guard went on to win its fourth straight 77-68 over Johnson & Wales in a non conference game.

Johnson & Wales jumped out to a 10-3 lead in the first four minutes of the game. The Wildcats later used an 8-0 run to take their biggest lead of the half, 36-20 with 6:31 left.

Coast Guard responded with nine straight points and used a 24-4 run which included 10 straight points by Sowers to take a 44-40 lead with 14.2 seconds left.

Japhet Kerr knocked down a three-pointer in the closing seconds for Johnson & Wales making it a 44-43 game at halftime.

It was the second straight night that Coast Guard used a late first half run to get back into a game as the Bears outscored Roger Williams 18-2 over the final 5:15 of the first half last night to turn a 28-17 deficit into a 35-30 halftime lead.

Johnson & Wales led 40-31 with 3:22 left in the first half before Sowers (16 points) scored his 10 straight. He hit a three-pointer, his first of the night then sank four straight free throws before hitting another three-pointer giving Coast Guard its first lead of the night at 41-40 with 1:04 left in the first half.

Coast Guard (4-1) built a 58-49 lead with 12:58 left taking advantage of its height advantage as forward Jeff Prebeck and center Steve Blum accounted for the Bears’ first 13 points of the half, nine of them by Prebeck, who had his third straight double-double finishing the game with a season-high 27 points to go with his game-high 11 rebounds while Blum finished with 15 points.

Kerr led Johnson & Wales (0-2) with 20 points while Tirone McCray finished with 19 points, 14 of those in the first half.
