Women's Cross Country - NEWMAC Champion Bears Have Sensational Season
Senior Caitlyn Quinn won the ECAC Championship.
In one of the most successful Fall seasons at the Coast Guard Academy, the women’s cross country team shared in the spotlight as the Bears won their first ever New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship.
The Bears had three runners earn All-conference honors as Junior JoEllen Arons (20:02.7) was fourth senior co-captain Caitlin Quinn was sixth (20:13.10) and senior Aidan VanCleef was seventh (20:14.30) overall.
Quinn won the ECAC Division III championship the following week as the Bears placed a school-best second overall. Quinn won the 6K race in 22 minutes, 57 seconds as the Bears, who placed five runners in the top 21.
Aidan Van Cleef (23:13) was third, her sister, freshman Bryce Van Cleef (23:27) was seventh while Arons (23:49) was 18th and junior Sara McGuigan (23:57) was 21st. The top 15 earn All-ECAC honors.
The Bears closed out the season by placing 10th of 48 teams at the Division III New England Championships. Quinn earned All-New England honors for the first time in her career with a 29th place finish.
Coast Guard won four of its five regular season races. The Bears won the Smith College Invitational, the Ray Dwyer Invitational, the Roger Williams Invitational and the Westfield State Invitational and placed fourth at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational.
