Corinne McCormack earned 1st team honors for the second time in her career.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(11/3/06)--The Coast Guard Academy had three players named to the New England Women’s Volleyball Association (NEWVA) All-New England team on Friday.

Junior co-captain Corinne McCormack and sophomore Nicole Gurr were named to the first team while senior co-captain Christine Rostowfske was named to the second team.

McCormack, a second team selection by NEWVA last season and a first team selection in 2004, is third in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) in kills per game (4.03), fourth in hitting percentage (.287) and second in aces per game (0.797). She registered her 1,000th career kill this season and has 1,074 career kills.

Gurr, the 2005 NEWVA Rookie of the Year and a second-team selection, leads the NEWMAC in kills per game (5.55), is second in aces per game(0.8), third in hitting percentage (.294), ninth in blocks (.727) and is the only player to earn NEWMAC Player of the Week honors more than once, she won it twice this season.

Rostowfske, who was earned honorable mention honors from NEWVA in each of the last two seasons, leads the NEWMAC with 12.74 assists per game. She is the Coast Guard all-time leader with 3,974 assists.

Coast Guard has won a school-record 17 straight and will host the NEWMAC semifinals and championship this weekend. The top-seeded Bears (21-2) will take on fourth-seeded Wellesley at 5 p.m. on Friday. The NEWMAC Championship game will be played at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
