Women's Cross Country - Falconi named NEWMAC Coach of the Year
NEWMAC Coach of the Year Leroy Falconi
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(11/3/06)--Coast Guard Academy women’s cross country head coach Leroy Falconi has been named the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Coach of the Year in voting by the 10 head coaches in the conference.
Falconi in his 24th season as head coach led the Bears to their first ever NEWMAC Championship on Saturday.
Coast Guard finished with 54 points to beat defending champion Wellesley, which placed second with 66 points. The Bears finished sixth of the 10 teams in 2005.
Junior JoEllen Arons was Coast Guard’s top finisher, as she placed fourth overall.
The Bears will compete at the ECAC Championships on Saturday at Williams College. Coast Guard placed fifth at the 2005 ECAC Championships.
