NEW LONDON, CONN.--(9/24/06)--Coast Guard Academy came from behind to win the Larry White Trophy and the New England Sloop Championship on the Thames River. This is the first time they have won the championship since 1991.

The win qualified the Bears for the ICSA Sloop National Championship at the College of Charleston on Nov. 17 - 19.
The Bears were third after Saturday's races, nine points behin leader Roger Williams. Coast Guard sailed more aggressively Sunday and closed the gap with two races to go. They finished first and second in the final two races to secure a qualifying spot, score 32 points, and win the Larry White Trophy and the championship.
Seniors skipper Chris Greenough and crew Andrew Gibbons and junior crews Jason Hill and Kevin Kuhn were the team that brought home the trophy.
