Tim Leber was named NEFC Defensive Player of the Week
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(10/30/06)--Coast Guard Academy senior co-captain Tim Leber was named the New England Football Conference (NEFC) Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Bears 3-0 win at Maine Maritime which clinched the NEFC Bogan Division championship.
The win was the seventh straight for Coast Guard, which is 7-1 overall and 6-0 in the division.
Leber, an outside linebacker, had a game-high 15 tackles, seven solo and two sacks including a sack on the final series with under a minute to play to preserve the shutout victory. It was Coast Guard’s second shutout of the season.
Coast Guard will close out the regular season at home against Framingham State on Saturday and then host Boyd Division champion Curry on Nov. 11th in the NEFC Championship Game at noon. The winner of the NEFC Championship Game gets an automatic bid to the Division III NCAA Playoffs.
The Bears went to the NCAA Playoffs in both 1996 and 1997, the only two trips the school has made.
