Junior Corinne McCormack led the Bears with 21 kills
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(10/28/06)--Junior Corinne McCormack had a game-high 21 kills as Coast Guard, ranked first in New England, beat Wellesley 3-0 (31-29, 30-21, 30-22) to win the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) regular season championship, the Bears second regular season title in the past three years.

Senior co-captain Christine Rostowfske ended a thrilling first game with an ace giving the Bears a 31-29 win. The first game was tied at 27, 28 and 29 before the Bears scored the final two points for the win.

In game two, Coast Guard led 21-18 before scoring nine of the final 12 points to take a 2-0 lead.

Coast Guard wrapped up the NEWMAC regular season championship by scoring 10 of the 14 points in game three for a 30-22 win.

Sophomore Nicole Gurr had 16 kills, seven digs and two aces while Rostowfske led the way with 41 assists and 18 digs along with four aces for the Bears.

Sophomore Jessica Duff led Wellesley with 11 kills while senior Laura Ackerman had eight kills and three blocks.

Top-seeded Coast Guard (20-2, 8-1) will host a first round NEWMAC Tournament game on Tuesday night. If Coast Guard wins that game, the Bears would host the NEWMAC Tournament semifinals and championship match on Friday and Saturday (Nov. 3-4).

Wellesley (18-9, 7-2), ranked eighth in New England, finishes in a three-way tie for second. The Blue will also host a first round game on Tuesday night.
