 Senior Christine Rostowfske WORCESTER, MASS.--(10/24/06)--Coast Guard, the top ranked team in the NCAA Division III New England rankings, ran its winning streak to 15 straight with a 3-0 win over Clark in New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women’s volleyball action at Kneller Athletic Center on Wednesday evening. Game scores were 25-30, 9-30 and 15-30.
Coast Guard (19-2, 7-1 NEWMAC) is tied with Wellesley for first place in he conference. The Bears host Wellesley in the regular season finale on Saturday at 1 p.m.. The winner will be the NEWMAC regular season champion and host the conference tournament on Nov. 3rd and 4th.
The two teams had a back and forth battle in the first game. Clark jumped out to an 8-1 advantage and later took a 24-21 lead on a kill by Margo Labadorf late in the game. Coast Guard tied it 24-all when Corinne McCormack spiked a hard ball in the middle of Clark’s defense. The Cougars never regained the lead, falling 25-30.
Coast Guard took control of the next two games, winning 30-9 and 30-15.
McCormack had 16 kills, 11 digs and four solo-blocks to lead the Bears. Christine Rostowfske dished out 33 assists and nine digs, while Kimberly Jung finished with six kills, 11 digs and four service aces. Megan Durbin led Coast Guard defensively with 15 digs.
