SEASON PREVIEW
The pistol team is being lead this year by 1/c Eric Eng, one of our two returning seniors. With six of our top eight shooters graduating last year the team is really looking to our underclass to have breakout seasons. During the off season the team was able to refurbish 10 of our standard pistols and replace some of our older free pistols. This will be the first time in over 20 years that the team has purchased new free pistols. With the new shooters and the new weapons we are looking forward to an action packed season.
SEASON REVIEW
The 2006-2007 season for pistol was a great year with a team anchored by many seniors. The team performed well throughout the season steadily improving on the road to nationals. At the U.S. Military Academy sectionals 1/c Lundin won the silver medal in air pistol 1/c Murtaugh won the silver medal in free and the gold medal in sport pistol and a gold medal in women’s air pistol.
The team went on to take 6th in the nation overall behind Massachusetts Institute of Technology (1st), U.S. Military Academy (2nd), U.S. Naval Academy (3rd), University of Utah (4th), and The Ohio State University (5th). As you will notice all of these schools are Division 1 schools. In pistol there are no divisions so we often compete and win against schools that have many times more students than we have. 1/c Murtaugh had a stand out performance in women’s sport pistol and took 4th in the nation. It was a very productive season and the first class cadets will be sorely missed the next year.
