Men's Indoor Track - Flint Earns All-America Honors Print E-mail
Junior Mike Flint made his second straight trip to the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships and this time he came home an All-American.

Flint ran the fastest time in the preliminaries (4:15:71) setting both meet and facilty records at the time and finished fourth overall in the mile with a time of 4:13.73 becoming the first Coast Guard men’s indoor track and field All-American since Josh Fant earned All-America honors in the high jump in 1998. Will Leer of Pomona-Pitzer (Calif.) won the event in 4:09.42, followed by Matt Dushane of SUNY-Plattsburgh (4:12.01) and Joe Francisco of Widener (Pa.) College (4:13.29).
Last year, Flint was ninth in the 800 meters (1:55.67) at the NCAA Championships.
Flint qualified for the NCAA Championships as he won the mile race in a school-record time of 4:08.94 at the All-New England Championships (Divisions I, II and III).
Flint’s time was the second fastest run during the year in Division III. He broke the old school-record of 4:11.4 set by Dennis Bohlayer in 1972. The Bears finished 17th among all New England Division I, II and III teams.
At the New England Division III Championships, twelve athletes earned All-New England status as Coast Guard finished fifth.
Nate Rhodes was the top Coast Guard finisher as he placed second in the pole vault (13 feet, 6 inches). Zach Geyer was third in the high jump (6-5) while Flint was fourth in the 800 (1:57.39) and Jason Erickson was fourth in the 600 (1:23.43). Lee Crusius was seventh in the shot put (47-53/4) and Eric Laurel was eighth in the 5,000 (15:24.54).
The 4x800 relay team of Flint, Matt Romano, Steven Bondira and Erickson placed second (7:58.18) and the 4x400 team of Pat Burnett, Thomas Adams, Cory McCollow, Brian Naughton finished seventh (3:32.60).
