United States Coast Guard Academy - Department of Athletics - Volleyball

NEW LONDON, CONN.--(10/5/06)--Sophomore Nicole Gurr has 12 kills and three aces as Coast Guard won its seventh straight with a home 3-0 win (30-16, 30-23, 30-11) win over Mitchell in a non-conference game between the two New London schools.

Coast Guard took control of the first game by scoring 11 straight points to break a 4-4 tie and win 30-16. The Bears closed out the match winning game two 30-23 and game three 30-11.

Freshman Courtney Wolf had seven kills and a game-high five blocks while sophomore Mary Bitzer added six kills an a game-high four aces for the Bears. Freshman Leanna Minton led Coast Guard (11-2) with six digs.

Senior Theresa Kouris and junior Shayna Barnes each had 11 kills to lead the Pequots (6-10). Barnes also led Mitchell with four blocks.
