NEW LONDON, CONN.--(1/31/11)--Connecticut College used an 11-1 run in the second half to snap a seven-game losing streak and beat neighboring rival and host Coast Guard 49-47 in a non-conference game between the two New London schools.

Conn. College also snapped a four-game losing streak in the series against Coast Guard to improve to 8-13 overall this season. The Bears suffered their 14th straight loss to drop to 2-16 on the year.

The Camels used that 11-1 spurt to take their largest lead of the game 38-29 with 12:15 left.

Coast Guard, which led 24-22 at halftime, made a late run in the final minute after trailing 48-42 with just 48 seconds left following a pair of free throws by senior Tori Verrengia.

Freshman Kelsey Lyford knocked down a 3-pointer with 35 seconds left and classmate Larla Brown’s layup with four seconds left cut the deficit to 48-47.

Sophomore Jeanna Dunleavy made the first of two free throws with four seconds left. Dunleavy missed the second one, but the Bears were unable to get a shot off as time expired.

Verrengia led the Camels with 11 points while junior Kim Horne was also in double figures with 10 points. Dunleavy had nine points to go with her game-high 11 rebounds.

Brown led the Bears with a game-high 18 points and a career-high five assists while senior Allison Majcher recorded the first double-double of her career and almost had a triple-double as she finished with 10 points, 10 rebounds and a career-high eight blocked shots.

Lyford also recorded career-highs with 11 points and eight rebounds for the Bears.

The Camels shot just 21 percent from the field (13-62), 17.9 percent in the first half, but they were five of 16 from behind the arc and eight for 22 from the foul line and took advantage of 28 Coast Guard turnovers.

Coast Guard shot over 40 percent for just the second time this season (20-49), but the Bears were just four of 10 from the foul line.

The Bears outrebounded the Camels 47-39.
