Volleyball - Bears Win NEWMAC Opener Print E-mail
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(9/12/06)--Junior co-captain Corinne McCormack had 14 kills and six digs leading Coast Guard to a 3-0 (30-21, 30-16, 30-13) win over Mount Holyoke in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) season opener for both teams.


Coast Guard, playing without one of its top players sophomore middle hitter Nicole Gurr, improved to 3-0 overall on the season, the Bears have not dropped a game yet this season, winning all nine.



Junior Kimberly Jung added 11 kills while senior co-captain Christine Rostowfske led the Bears with a season-high 39 assists.



Mount Holyoke senior Emily Groth became the Lyons’ all-time kills leader as she registered 13 kills giving her 757 for her career. Naomi Tuffor (‘01) had held the career kills mark with 744.



Mount Holyoke drop to 1-1 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
