Men's Soccer - Walker Strikes Again in Season Opener
Anthony Walker led the Bears to a season opening win for the second straight season.
PROVIDENCE, R.I.--(9/1/10)--Junior Anthony Walker scored a pair of first half goals and senior Chris Tarbell made nine saves leading Coast Guard to a season opening 2-1 win over host Rhode Island College in a non-conference game.
Walker burned the Anchormen for the second straight season on opening day as he scored the only goal of the game last year in a 1-0 season opening win over Rhode Island College.
Coast Guard registered a one goal victory in the season opener for an amazing eighth straight season.
Walker gave the Bears a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute with classmates Brett Godiksen and Sean Stadig assisting. Just over six minutes later Walker increased the lead to 2-0 with junior Anthony Bareno assisting.
It was Bareno’s first assist since he assisted on Walker’s game winner in the season opener last year.
RIC cut the deficit in half in the 22nd minute on a goal by Corey Carvalho to close the scoring.
Each team took seven shots in the opening stanza while the Anchormen outshot the Bears 10-2 in the second half for a 17-9 advantage in shots.
