Volleyball - Bears Roll to Season Opening Win
Catherine Walker was part of a balanced Coast Guard attack in the season opening win.
BUZZARDS BAY, MASS.--(9/1/10)--Freshman Lexie Ludewig had four kills and a pair of service aces to lead Coast Guard to a 3-0 non-league victory over Massachusetts Maritime by game scores of 25-5, 25-7 and 25-11 in the season opener for both schools Wednesday evening at the Clean Harbors Athletic Center.
Sophomore Catherine Walker added three kills and three solo blocks for the visiting Bears (1-0), who also received three kills, three service aces and a block from freshman Kelsey DePorto.
Sophomore Karen Matic collected 15 set assists for the winners, who also received four service aces from freshman Sam Marmolejo as well as a pair of kills and three blocks from sophomore Rachel Cuthrell.
Sophomore Suzanne Marino notched three kills and six digs in the setback for the host Buccaneers (0-1), who also received three kills, four digs and a block from freshman Kelly Lyons in her collegiate debut.
Sophomore Joanne Robery chipped in with 15 set assists for Massachusetts Maritime.
