Men's Tennis - Bears Place Four on All-Conference team
Nick Martin earned first team honors in both singles and doubles.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(4/27/10)--Coast Guard placed four players on the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All-conference men’s tennis team and won the Sportsmanship Award voted on by the leagues six head coaches.
Sophomore Nick Martin earned first team honors at both #2 singles and as the #2 doubles team with freshman Blake Maurer while the Bears #1 doubles team of sophomore Greg Mitchell and senior Chris Pappe also earned first team honors.
Martin was 3-2 with wins over Babson, Clark and Springfield at #2 singles while he and Maurer were 4-1 in the conference with the only loss coming to Wheaton. Mitchell and Pappe were a perfect 5-0 in NEWMAC action this season.
Mitchell earned second team honors at #1 singles as he posted a 4-1 mark in conference action with the only loss coming to NEWMAC Athlete of the Year Kevin Pang.
Maurer was named second team at #4 singles as he was 4-1, including a win at #3 singles for the Bears, who were 10-10 overall this season and 3-2 in conference play, advancing to the semifinals of the NEWMAC tournament.
