Annapolis, MD--(4/25/10)--This past weekend, members of the Offshore Sailing team competed in the Intrepid Trophy Regatta hosted by the US Naval Academy.

Saturday began without any wind, but eventually, a light breeze filled in and racing finally got started later in the afternoon. Coast Guard won 4 matches, and lost 1. That left Coast Guard in a 3-way tie for first place in Group A, with only one team with a better record in Group B.

Again on Sunday, there was no breeze in the morning, and with time running out to complete the regatta, the Race Committee modified the format to a knockout series. Unfortunately, Coast Guard didn’t fare well in Sunday’s lighter breezes and lost both of their matches for the day, ending up 7th of 12 for the weekend.

The team consisted of Alex Lloyd on the bow, Ben McElroy trimming jib and working the pit, Stephen Hills trimming main and spinnaker, Eric Johnson on the helm, and Stephanie Mewes as alternate.

1. Navy 7-3

2. Hobart / William Smith 7-3
