NEW LONDON, CONN.--(4/24/10)--The third-seeded Coast Guard Academy men’s tennis team was eliminated in the semifinals of the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship with a 5-3 loss to second-seed Wheaton College this afternoon.

The Bears finish the season 10-10 while Wheaton (14-4) advances to the Championship finals and will face top seed MIT.

The Lyons held a 2-1 lead after the doubles matches as the Bears lone win came from second doubles Nick Martin and Blake Maurer who defeated James Little and Gregory Poulin by a score of 8-6.

Coast Guard won matches at first and fourth singles, but Wheaton’s Kyle Hudgins, Brian Krantz and Harry Altman won their singles matched to clinch the win for the Lyons.

Coast Guard’s Greg Mitchell defeated Neall Oliver 6-3, 6-4 at first singles and Maurer defeated Poulin 6-2, 6-0.

Coast Guard’s Nick Martin and Wheaton’s Little were tied at 1-1 when the Lyons clinched the victory.
