Cameron Carroll hit .727 last week to earn NEWMAC Player of the Week honors.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(4/19/10)--Coast Guard Academy freshman catcher Cameron Carroll hit .727 last week to earn New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Player of the Week honors.

Carroll and the Bears needed to sweep a doubleheader from Springfield on Saturday to qualify for the NEWMAC tournament for the first time since 2007.

Coast Guard won the opener 4-1 and then in game two Carroll was 5 for 5 with three RBI’s and two runs scored and classmate Tyler Babkiewich hit a walk off two-run homer for a 13-12 win and a spot in the six-team field.

Carroll was eight for 11 during the week in which the Bears split four games. He also had nine putouts, two assists and no errors last week.

Coast Guard, 9-16 overall and 4-8 in conference play, is the fifth-seed and will open the double elimination NEWMAC tournament on Wednesday at second-seeded Babson.

Babkiewich leads the team with a .431 average while Carroll is second with a .382 average and a team-high 21 RBI’s.
